White Oak

The White Oak (Quercus alba) is a large and majestic deciduous tree that is native to North America. It typically reaches a height of 60 to 100 feet and has a spread of 50 to 80 feet, forming a wide and rounded canopy. The White Oak is known for its sturdy and durable wood, making it highly valued in construction and furniture making. The leaves of the White Oak are lobed with rounded edges and turn a beautiful red to burgundy color in the fall. It produces yellow-green male flowers in the spring, which are followed by small acorns that serve as an important food source for wildlife. The bark of the White Oak is light gray and develops distinctive ridges and furrows with age. This oak species prefers full sun to partial shade and adapts well to a variety of soil conditions, including loamy, sandy, and clay soils. The White Oak is known for its slow to moderate growth rate and long lifespan, often living for several centuries. It is highly tolerant of urban environments and can be found in parks, large landscapes, and natural forest settings. The White Oak is not only a beautiful shade tree but also provides habitat and food for a wide range of wildlife, making it a valuable addition to any landscape.
