Ordering & Availability

Do you sell to both homeowners and trade professionals?

Yes. Our nursery is open to the public, and we serve landscape professionals nationwide. Whether you're shopping for your own yard or sourcing a full job list, we’re here to help.

Can I shop online?

Yes. Many of our plants are available for online purchase with nationwide shipping. If you're looking for something specific that’s not listed online, send us a message - we may have it in stock or be able to source it for you.

I’m looking for a specific plant. Can you help me find it?

Absolutely. Plant Detectives was built on the principle of tracking down hard-to-find and rare material. Just send us the plant name, size, or specs and we’ll source it through our grower network.

Do you offer quantity discounts?

Yes. Many plants have bulk pricing available, and trade customers receive wholesale pricing. For large orders or job lot quotes, send us your full plant list for a custom quote.

Shipping & Delivery

Do you ship plants nationwide?

Yes. We ship trees, shrubs, and perennials throughout the U.S., including oversized freight items. Smaller plants (up to 7-gallon containers) ship via UPS or USPS; larger material ships by freight.

How does freight shipping work?

Freight orders are palletized and delivered curbside via liftgate service. We’ll coordinate with you on timing, unloading access, and delivery expectations. If you're sourcing for a job site, let us know and we’ll ship direct.

Do you offer local delivery?

Yes. We offer delivery throughout New Jersey and surrounding areas. Local customers can also pick up directly from our nursery in Chester, NJ.

How long does it take to receive my order?

Timing varies by product type and location. Most orders ship within 3 to 7 business days. Freight delivery may take slightly longer depending on distance and carrier availability.

What happens if a plant arrives damaged?

We pack all plants with care, but if something arrives in poor condition, please contact us within 48 hours. We’ll evaluate the issue and work to resolve it quickly.

Trade Customers

How do I set up a trade account?

You can download the trade account application here and submit it securely here. We typically review and respond within 1 to 2 business days.

Who qualifies for a trade account?

Landscape contractors, garden centers, municipalities, schools, property managers, and other industry professionals who purchase plant material for resale or installation.

Do I need an account to place a large order?

No, but approved trade accounts receive access to wholesale pricing, a dedicates Sales Representative, and preferred freight rates.

Can you help source full plant lists for jobs?

Yes. We specialize in project sourcing. Just send us your plant list and we’ll handle availability, substitutions (if needed), pricing, and logistics - shipped directly to the job site.

Returns, Guarantees & Plant Health

Do you offer a guarantee on plants?

We guarantee that all plants leave our facility healthy and true to type. Because plant survival depends on care, climate, and site conditions, we do not offer long-term warranties unless otherwise noted. However, if there’s an issue with your order, we evaluate concerns on a case-by-case basis and handle them as fairly and promptly as possible.

What should I do if a plant looks stressed after delivery?

Some stress during shipping is normal. Unpack your plants promptly, water them thoroughly, and allow them a day or two to recover. If you’re concerned, reach out with photos and we’ll advise.

Do you accept returns?

Live plants are perishable and not returnable. If there’s an issue with your order, contact us within 48 hours and we’ll make it right when appropriate.

Plant Info & Substitutions

Can I request a specific cultivar or form?

Yes. Just specify the variety, size, or growth habit you’re looking for. If it’s not in stock, we’ll check availability for you.

What happens if a plant on my list is unavailable?

We’ll offer the closest possible substitution based on habit, size, and aesthetic - always with your approval. Our team is experienced in working from spec sheets and bid documents.

Do you offer planting or design services?

We do not offer installation or design, but we’re happy to recommend local professionals and answer general planting questions.

Visiting the Nursery

Where are you located?

We’re located at 45 Route 206, Chester, New Jersey 07930.

What are your hours?

Hours vary seasonally. Please check our About Us page or call ahead for the most up-to-date schedule.

Can I walk the nursery to pick out plants?

Yes. Our nursery is open to the public, and we encourage walk-ins. Our team is available to assist with selection and loading. Please note that weekends can be especially busy; if all staff are helping other customers, we appreciate your patience. We’ll get to you as soon as we can.

Do you offer curbside pickup?

Yes. Order in advance and we’ll have your plants staged and ready for fast pickup.
