Digitalis
Digitalis, commonly called foxglove, delivers stately flower spires that draw bumblebees and hummingbirds from late spring into early summer, adding vertical structure and cottage-garden charm to borders and woodland edges. Plants prefer sun to part shade and evenly moist, well-drained soil; water to establish, mulch to keep roots cool, and avoid heavy fertilizer to prevent floppy growth. Many types are biennial or short-lived perennials, so leave a few seed heads to self-sow for natural renewal, or deadhead spent spikes to tidy and encourage side shoots on reblooming varieties. Compact forms fit path edges and containers, taller selections anchor mixed borders, and a single clump near a patio or entry creates a simple focal point with layered height. Most selections show good deer resistance. All parts are toxic if ingested; site away from pets and children that may nibble.
