Trident Maple
Acer buergerianum, also known as the Trident Maple, is a deciduous tree native to eastern China, Taiwan, and Japan. It belongs to the family Sapindaceae and is popular among bonsai enthusiasts due to its small size and attractive features. The tree typically grows to a height of 25-35 feet and has a spread of 20-25 feet. The leaves of Acer buergerianum are trifoliate, meaning they have three leaflets that are 1-3 inches long and wide. The leaf color can range from green to dark green, turning shades of yellow, orange, and red in the fall. The bark is grayish-brown with a texture that's somewhat rough and peeling. Flowers are small and yellowish-green, appearing in the spring before the leaves emerge. The tree produces small, winged seeds dispersed by the wind. Acer buergerianum is a hardy tree that can tolerate a wide range of growing conditions. They do well in full sun to partial shade and a variety of soil types. It's often used as a street tree or planted in parks and gardens for its attractive foliage and fall color.
