Shallon
The Shallon (Gaultheria shallon) is a native evergreen shrub that can reach a height of 3 to 6 feet with a spread of 4 to 8 feet. This medium-sized plant features glossy, leathery leaves that are dark green in color. In spring, it produces small white to pinkish bell-shaped flowers that are followed by purple to black berries in late summer. The Shallon thrives in partial shade to full sun and prefers well-drained acidic soils. It is a versatile shrub that can be used in woodland gardens, native plant gardens, or as a natural hedge. With its attractive foliage, showy flowers, and edible berries, the Shallon adds beauty and interest to the landscape.
