Redwood Creeping Wintergreen
The Redwood Creeping Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens 'Redwood') is a compact evergreen shrub that grows to a height of about 6 to 8 inches with a spread of 12 to 18 inches. This low-growing plant is known for its glossy deep green leaves that take on reddish hues in winter. During the summer, it produces small bell-shaped white flowers, followed by bright red berries in the fall that persist through winter. The plant prefers partial to full shade and thrives in well-drained acidic soils. It is a low-maintenance ground cover option for woodland gardens, rock gardens, or shaded areas, adding beauty with its attractive foliage, vibrant berries, and delightful wintergreen fragrance when the leaves are crushed.
