Red Dragon Japanese Maple
Acer palmatum dissectum 'Red Dragon' is a cultivar of the Japanese maple species Acer palmatum. It's a small, deciduous tree valued for its finely dissected, lacy foliage and striking red color. 'Red Dragon' is slow-growing, reaches a height of 8-10 feet and a spread of 10-12 feet over many years. Its leaves are deeply dissected with a delicate, lace-like appearance. They emerge in spring with a deep red color that gradually turns to a rich, burgundy-red as the season progresses. In autumn, the leaves turn a vibrant red, adding to the tree's stunning beauty. 'Red Dragon' prefers a partially shaded location with well-draining soil. Relatively low maintenance, requiring only occasional pruning to remove dead or damaged branches. A great accent or border tree when mixed with other plants.
