Native to central and eastern North America, it thrives in open spaces where it can stretch its wide canopy and establish a commanding presence.

Distinctive Features

This long-lived oak can reach 70 to 90 feet in height, with a broad, spreading crown and a thick, ridged trunk. Its bold foliage features large, lobed leaves that can grow up to 12 inches long. The tree�s most recognizable trait is its large acorn with a deep cup covered in shaggy scales, often enveloping most of the nut. Bark is deeply furrowed and dark gray, providing rugged texture and winter interest.
