Hydrangea serrata 'Blue Bird'
Hydrangea serrata 'Blue Bird' is a deciduous shrub cultivar that is part of the Hydrangeaceae family. It is native to Japan and Korea and typically grows to a height of 3-6 feet and a spread of 4-6 feet. 'Blue Bird' is a lacecap hydrangea, meaning it has flattened flowerheads composed of tiny fertile flowers surrounded by larger sterile flowers that form a ring around the edge. The flowers of 'Blue Bird' are pink or blue depending on the acidity of the soil, with blue blooms occurring in acidic soil and pink blooms in alkaline soil. The leaves of this cultivar are dark green, glossy, and serrated, providing a nice backdrop for the showy blooms. 'Blue Bird' hydrangeas prefer partial shade to full sun and well-draining soil.
