Bearberry Cotoneaster

Bearberry Cotoneaster, scientifically known as Cotoneaster dammeri, is a low-growing evergreen shrub that is valued for its attractive foliage and berries. It forms a dense mat-like ground cover and typically reaches a height of 6-12 inches with a spread of 5-8 feet. The Bearberry Cotoneaster features small, glossy dark green leaves that have a leathery texture and are often tinged with reddish hues in colder months. In late spring to early summer, it produces small white to pinkish flowers that are followed by bright red berries in the fall. These berries persist into winter, adding a pop of color to the landscape and providing a food source for birds. Bearberry Cotoneaster is known for its ability to tolerate a wide range of growing conditions, including poor soils and partial shade. It is often used as a ground cover, erosion control plant, or in rock gardens where its spreading habit and attractive foliage create a visually appealing carpet-like effect. With its low maintenance requirements and year-round interest, Bearberry Cotoneaster is a popular choice for both residential and commercial landscapes.
