White Willow
The White Willow (Salix alba 'Tristis') is a deciduous tree known for its graceful, weeping form and attractive foliage. It is a cultivar of the White Willow species (Salix alba) and is commonly referred to as the Weeping Willow or Golden Weeping Willow. The tree typically grows to a height of 30 to 40 feet, with a spread of 20 to 30 feet. Its slender branches cascade downward in a weeping fashion, creating an elegant and eye-catching appearance. The leaves of the White Willow are long, narrow, and lance-shaped, with a gray-green color on the upper side and a silvery-white underside, which adds to its ornamental value. In the spring, the tree produces catkins, which are long, cylindrical clusters of flowers. The catkins are typically yellow or green and add a touch of visual interest to the tree. The White Willow prefers full sun to partial shade and thrives in moist, well-drained soils. It is known for its tolerance to wet conditions and is often planted near bodies of water, such as ponds or streams. The tree has a fast growth rate and can be used to provide shade and screening in landscapes. Its weeping form makes it a popular choice for adding a dramatic focal point or creating a picturesque backdrop in gardens and parks.
