Dwarf Trident Maple

Acer buergerianum 'Miyasama yatsubusa' is a cultivar of the trident maple (Acer buergerianum). It's valued for its small size, compact growth habit, and attractive foliage. It is a slow-growing tree that reaches a height of only 3-6 feet and a spread of 3-5 feet over many years. It's a hardy tree that can tolerate a range of growing conditions, including full sun to partial shade and a variety of soil types. Leaves are small and three-lobed, measuring only about 1 inch in length and width. They emerge in the spring as a bright green color and gradually darken to a deep green as the summer progresses. In the fall, the leaves turn a rich shade of red, orange, or yellow, depending on the climate. The bark is attractive and peels to reveal a range of colors, including gray, brown, and orange. Small, winged seeds are dispersed by the wind. A popular choice for bonsai cultivation due to its small size, attractive foliage, and ability to develop fine branches.
