Allee Elm
The Allee Elm (Ulmus parvifolia 'Allee') is a cultivar of the Chinese Elm, known for its graceful appearance and adaptability. It is a medium-sized deciduous tree that typically reaches a height of 40 to 50 feet with a spread of 30 to 40 feet. The Allee Elm features a rounded canopy with arching branches that create a beautiful silhouette. The leaves are small, oval-shaped, and dark green, turning shades of yellow in the fall before dropping. In late summer to early fall, the tree produces small, inconspicuous flowers that give way to small, winged seeds. One of the notable characteristics of the Allee Elm is its high tolerance to various environmental conditions, including drought, heat, and pollution. It is also resistant to Dutch elm disease, a fungal disease that has devastated many elm trees. The Allee Elm prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil but can tolerate a range of soil types, including clay and sandy soils. It is often planted as a shade tree in urban and suburban landscapes, parks, and along streets. The Allee Elm's attractive form, adaptability, and disease resistance make it a popular choice for landscape designers and homeowners looking for a low-maintenance and visually appealing tree.
