Leatherleaf Mahonia
Leatherleaf Mahonia (Mahonia bealei) is an evergreen shrub native to China. It is highly valued for its ornamental features, characterized by thick, leathery, glossy leaves arranged in a pinnately compound fashion, typically with 9-13 leaflets. This shrub reaches a height of about 4 to 10 feet with a similar spread. During late winter to early spring, it produces fragrant yellow flowers arranged in upright racemes, followed by clusters of blue-black berries in the summer, which are attractive to birds. Leatherleaf Mahonia is commonly used in landscaping as a specimen plant, hedge, or border shrub due to its dense, evergreen foliage and appealing flowers.
