Bloodgood Japanese Maple
Acer palmatum 'Bloodgood' is a popular cultivar of the Japanese maple, a small deciduous tree native to Japan, Korea, and China. 'Bloodgood' is known for its stunning deep red-purple foliage and attractive form. Deeply lobed leaves emerge a deep red-purple color and maintain their color throughout the growing season. In the fall they turn a bright red color, creating a beautiful display. Reddish-black bark privides year-round interest. The tree grows to a height of 15-20 feet with a similar spread, creating a rounded, spreading form. It prefers partial shade to full sun exposure and well-drained soil. 'Bloodgood' is an excellent choice for a specimen tree or accent plant in a garden or landscape. Its striking foliage color makes it a popular choice for adding contrast to other plants in a garden.
