Quaking Aspen
Quaking Aspen (Populus tremuloides) is a deciduous tree native to North America and is known for its distinctive leaves that tremble or "quake" in the slightest breeze due to their flattened petioles. These leaves have a round or heart-like shape with serrated edges and are typically a vibrant green in spring and summer, turning to brilliant shades of yellow, gold, or orange in the fall. The bark of the Quaking Aspen is smooth and greenish-white on younger trees, transitioning to gray or white with black scars and marks as the tree matures. It is a relatively fast-growing tree and often forms clonal colonies, making it a prominent species in certain forest ecosystems and a favorite for landscaping due to its striking appearance.
