Carolina Silverbell
The Carolina Silverbell (Halesia carolina) is a beautiful deciduous tree native to the southeastern United States. It typically grows to a height of 20 to 40 feet with a rounded or pyramidal shape. The tree features oval-shaped leaves that emerge in spring with a bright green color, turning yellow in the fall. One of its most attractive characteristics is the profusion of pendulous, bell-shaped flowers that appear in early to mid-spring. These delicate white flowers hang in clusters, creating a stunning display and giving the tree its common name. After flowering, the Carolina Silverbell produces small, dry, brownish fruit capsules that persist into the winter. This tree prefers moist, well-drained soils and thrives in partial shade to full sun conditions. It is known for its tolerance to various soil types and its ability to withstand urban environments. The Carolina Silverbell is a popular choice for ornamental planting, adding beauty and interest to gardens, parks, and landscapes.
