Porcupine Grass
Porcupine Grass (Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus') is a distinctive ornamental grass known for its upright and spiky growth habit. As a cultivar of Miscanthus sinensis, 'Strictus' showcases green blades with distinct horizontal golden bands, resembling the quills of a porcupine, hence its name. These bands create a stunning visual effect, especially when the grass sways in the wind. In late summer to early fall, 'Strictus' produces feathery plumes that start as silvery-purple and gradually fade to a creamy tan, adding further visual appeal. This grass forms dense clumps, making it an excellent choice for adding structure and texture to garden borders, as well as for creating a striking focal point. It prefers well-drained soil and thrives in sunny to partly shaded areas. Porcupine Grass is a low-maintenance and versatile plant that can enhance the aesthetic of various garden designs, from formal to more natural landscapes.
