Fruit Bushes

Fruit bushes offer spring blossom for pollinators, summer harvests, and often vivid fall color with straightforward care. Choose blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, currants, elderberries, and gooseberries for beds, edible hedges, and containers. Site in full sun, use well drained soil, and keep soil acidic for blueberries. Water to establish, mulch to keep roots cool, and prune in late winter by type to renew fruiting wood. Many varieties crop better with partners, plant two or more that bloom together, and use netting where birds are persistent. A compact plant near a patio or path creates a productive focal point with season long interest.
