Fruit Trees
Fruit trees offer spring blossom for pollinators, cooling summer shade, and homegrown harvests with straightforward care. Choose dwarf and semi dwarf sizes for small yards, raised beds, and large containers, and plant standard trees where you have room to spread. Many varieties need a compatible pollination partner that flowers at the same time, some are self fertile, so mix two or more for reliable crops. Site in full sun with well drained, fertile soil, water deeply to establish, and mulch to keep roots cool. Prune in late winter for strong structure, thin fruit in early summer for size and quality, and favor disease resistant selections for lower maintenance. Train compact trees as espaliers along fences, set a pair to frame a path, or feature one near a patio or entry as a productive focal point.
