Opuntia humifusa, commonly known as Eastern Prickly Pear Cactus, is a low-growing, spreading cactus with flattened, oval, green pads and bright yellow flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer, followed by red, edible fruits. Thriving in full sun and well-drained, sandy or rocky soil, this variety is perfect for rock gardens, xeriscapes, and sunny borders. The showy blooms and unique texture of Eastern Prickly Pear add a bold, desert-like feel to the garden, and it is highly drought-tolerant.
