Rainbow Pillar Serviceberry
Amelanchier canadensis 'Rainbow Pillar' is a deciduous tree that is a cultivar of the Canadian serviceberry or shadblow. It typically grows up to 20 feet tall and only 6-8 feet wide, with a dense, columnar form. In the spring, the tree produces showy white flowers that give way to edible blue-black berries in the summer, which are attractive to birds and other wildlife. The leaves are a glossy green in the summer and turn to shades of yellow, orange, and red in the fall, adding to the tree's year-round appeal. 'Rainbow Pillar' prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soils, and is tolerant of a wide range of soil types. It is low-maintenance and does not require pruning, making it an excellent choice for a variety of landscapes. Overall, Amelanchier canadensis 'Rainbow Pillar' is an attractive and versatile tree that provides year-round interest to the garden, while taking up minimal space.
