Tree Tip Tuesday

Pinus Densiflora 'Low Glow'

This ornamental conifer has a light green shade that really "pops" in the summer. Works very well when played against plants with light textures.

Picea Orientalis Skylands & Firefly

Skylands graces the entrance of our garden center and nursery - that's how much we love it! Firefly is a dwarf offspring of Skylands and worthy of a place in your yard.

Oxydendrum Arboreum Sourwood

Not many people are familiar with Sourwood, but it's a fantastic small tree! If you're willing to put up with a slightly crooked trunk, we recommend you give this one a try.

Ilex Meserveae 'Red Beauty'

Hybridized at Rutgers University, this slow-growing holly is "worthy of a try."

Pinus Bungeana

This three needle pine is a cool little plant! It really shines as it matures and the bark exfoliates revealing interesting shades of green and yellow.

Cladrastis Lutea Yellowood

The Yellowood is another fantastic shade tree capable of reaching 65' in height. One of the few true shade trees that blooms flowers in the spring.

Nyssa Sylvatica Black Gum

Black Gum is a phenomenal shade tree that's wildly underutilized in the landscape. Fall color is brilliant orange and red.

Ornamental Grasses 'Karley Rose', 'Hameln', and 'Moudry'

Ornamental grasses are always a beautiful addition to a landscape. Karley Rose, Hameln and Moudry all reach approximately 3' and look beautiful on a breezy summer afternoon.

October Glory & Green Mountain Maples

October Glory is bred for beautiful fall foliage, offering gorgeous shades of red and orange. The Green Maple Sugar Maple also offers "outrageous" fall color. A must have for leaf peepers.

Vitex Agnus 'Shoal Creek' Chaste Tree

This incredible plant will die-down to the ground during colder months, then come roaring back in the spring, growing 6-7' by summer. Beautiful purple flowers will grab your eye day after day.

Chamaecyparis Obtusa 'Fernspray Gold'

Fernspray Gold thrives in full sun but can tolerate light shade. Deer do love, however, so plan accordingly when adding to your landscape.

Hydrangea Paniculata 'Limelight', 'Pee Gee', 'Phantom', 'Pinky Winky'

These tree form hydrangeas feature beautiful, colorful blooms that add a lot of late summer variety.
