Phoenix Snakebark Maple
Acer conspicuum 'Phoenix' is a cultivar of the Snakebark Maple, a small deciduous tree that is native to China. 'Phoenix' is named for its striking bark, which is a bright coral-red color and very visible against the grey-green foliage. The leaves of this cultivar are dark green with a serrated edge. In the autumn, they turn a bright yellow-orange color. The tree has a slow growth rate and reaches a height of around 12-15 feet, with a similar spread. It prefers well-draining soil and partial shade, and can tolerate sub-zero temperatures. Acer conspicuum 'Phoenix' is often grown as an ornamental tree in gardens and parks due to its attractive bark and foliage. It's best suited to smaller gardens or as an understory tree in larger landscapes. It can be grown as a specimen tree or as part of a mixed border, and can also be grown in containers. Like other Snakebark Maples, 'Phoenix' is generally low-maintenance and doesn't require much pruning.
