Gro-Low Fragrant Sumac
The Gro-Low Fragrant Sumac (Rhus aromatica 'Gro-Low') is a low-growing deciduous shrub known for its spreading and ground-hugging growth habit. It's often used as a ground cover or for erosion control due to its ability to form a dense mat of branches. This plant typically has trifoliate leaves, green in the summer and turning various shades of red, orange, or purple in the fall, providing attractive seasonal color. While it's not a showy flowering plant, the Gro-Low Fragrant Sumac produces small, inconspicuous flowers in the spring and berries that are a food source for wildlife. It's called "fragrant sumac" because the leaves emit a pleasant fragrance when crushed. This shrub is valued for its hardiness and ability to thrive in a variety of soil types.
