Redbud Crabapple
The Redbud Crabapple, scientifically known as Malus x zumi var. calocarpa, is a hybrid crabapple tree that is a cross between the Amur crabapple (Malus baccata) and the Japanese flowering crabapple (Malus floribunda). It is a deciduous tree known for its attractive features and ornamental value. During the spring, it graces the landscape with a profusion of showy pink to red blossoms, which add a burst of color and elegance to gardens and yards. The leaves typically have a glossy appearance and a deep green hue during the growing season. As autumn approaches, the foliage transforms into various shades of yellow, orange, and red, providing a beautiful display of fall colors. The Redbud Crabapple often produces small, red to yellow fruit, which can persist into winter, providing visual interest and attracting birds. Its overall appearance and ability to adapt to various soil and climate conditions make it a sought-after choice for landscape design and ornamental gardening.
