Beach Plum
Prunus maritima, commonly known as Beach Plum, is a hardy, deciduous shrub native to coastal areas of the northeastern United States. It features white, fragrant flowers that bloom in spring, followed by small, round, purple to red plums in late summer, which are often used for making jams and jellies. The glossy green leaves turn shades of yellow in fall, adding seasonal interest. Thriving in full sun and well-drained, sandy soil, Beach Plum is highly tolerant of salt and drought, making it ideal for coastal gardens, hedges, or naturalized areas. Its fruit attracts wildlife, including birds and pollinators, and the plant adds a natural, rugged beauty to landscapes.
