Hinoki Cypress
Chamaecyparis obtusa, commonly known as Hinoki Cypress or Hanoki Cypress, is a slow-growing, evergreen tree native to Japan. It is a popular ornamental tree grown for its attractive foliage and elegant form. The needles are scale-like, soft and aromatic, and range in color from green to blue-green or golden yellow. Hinoki Cypress can grow up to 50 feet tall but there are many cultivars available that are smaller in size, making them suitable for gardens and landscapes of all sizes. This tree prefers well-drained soil and partial shade to full sun. It is also resistant to deer and other pests, making it a great choice for gardeners looking for a low-maintenance tree.
